<p>I have entered very few photo contest. I have submitted to even fewer “call’s for submissions”. I&#8217;d either disagreed with the terms of the submission or just have a lack of interest in the actual project.</p>
<p>This was different…  <a title="This is East Van Community Photography Project" href="http://www.thisiseastvan.com/" target="_blank">This is East Vancouver</a>. The <a title="Wikipedia Entry for East Vancouver Neighbourhood" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Vancouver" target="_blank">neighbourhood</a> I have lived in (abet somewhat part-time at the moment) for almost 3 years. The unique nature of the independent vibe and creative culture I found in East Vancouver and especially <a title="The Drive Website" href="http://www.thedrive.ca/" target="_blank">Commercial Drive</a> really fed my soul and has given me a lot of food for thought ( It gave me a lot of great <a title="Cafes of Commercial Drive" href="http://coffeevancouver.ca/tag/commercial-drive/" target="_blank">coffee</a> as well).</p>
<div id="attachment_960" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 298px"><a rel="attachment wp-att-960" href="http://robertdall.com/blog/2011/04/30/this-is-east-van/buskers-robertdall/"><img class="size-full wp-image-960 " title="Buskers on The Drive" src="http://robertdall.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Buskers-RobertDall.jpg" alt="Buskers of Commercial Drive" width="288" height="191" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Buskers on The Drive</p></div>
<p>So when I heard about the <a title="This is East Van Website" href="http://www.thisiseastvan.com/" target="_blank">This is East Van</a> call for submissions it peaked my interest and I checked out the site. My interest was completely captivated when I read it was <a title="The two creative types behind the This is East Vancouver Project" href="http://www.thisiseastvan.com/contact/" target="_blank">two creative types</a> (not unlike myself) who live and work in the community and that “with reckless abandonment” had an idea to make a book about a community they live in.</p>
<div id="attachment_961" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 310px"><a rel="attachment wp-att-961" href="http://robertdall.com/blog/2011/04/30/this-is-east-van/prado-robertdall/"><img class="size-full wp-image-961 " title="Saturday Morning" src="http://robertdall.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Prado-RobertDall.jpg" alt="Saturday Morning Coffee at Prado Cafe" width="300" height="227" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Saturday Morning</p></div>
<p>Well I don’t think I have ever submitted my photos fast then I have to this project. It was everything a community photography project should be and I am lucky enough to have three photos accepted into the book.</p>
<p>Flipping through the book as I wrote this post I see many photos that spark memories of an event or a time of the year. Other images are foreign, a part of the city I have yet to explore.</p>
<div id="attachment_962" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 310px"><a rel="attachment wp-att-962" href="http://robertdall.com/blog/2011/04/30/this-is-east-van/snowday-robertdall/"><img class="size-full wp-image-962 " title="Snow Day" src="http://robertdall.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/SnowDay-RobertDall.jpg" alt="Snow day at Salisbury Park in East Van" width="300" height="227" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Snow Day</p></div>
<p>I think Erin Sinclair and Jason Uglanica have really done an amazing job on this project and to celebrate the launch of <a title="This is East Van Community Photography Project" href="http://www.thisiseastvan.com/" target="_blank">This is East Van</a> they are having a party. I am attending… You should too.</p>

<p>Will leave you with this teaser video from the This is East Van Website.</p>

<p>In my former life as a news photographer and I did a fair amount of travel around Western Canada covering the events of the day. So when Joe and Audrey asked me to show my work at the <a href="http://coffeevancouver.ca/2007/10/10/bump-and-grind/" target="_blank">Bump and Grind</a> I was more than happy (it is the closest cafe to my house).</p>
<p>This show was commissioned five years ago for the <a href="http://www.art-industry.com/fotosemana/" target="_blank">Bienal Fotosemana</a>, which had photography exhibitions across Bogota, Colombia. I was chosen too as the international guest and showed at <a href="http://www.divulgacion.unal.edu.co/museodearte.html" target="_blank">Universidad Nacional de Colombia Meseo De Arte</a>, The National University Art Museum.</p>
<p>With the help of Vince over at 49th and Bump and Grind we will be serving the <a href="http://www.49thparallelroasters.com/coffeeDetails_PageName_colombiaTimana.html" target="_blank">Colombia Timana</a> during the event.</p>
<p>So here is the skinny:</p>
<p><strong>Show: Native Landscapes<br />
Where: Bump and Grind 916 Commercial Drive<br />
When: Saturday, June 13 5:00 &#8211; 7:00 pm</strong></p>

<p>A number of months ago I was given a domain and server space to experiment with and I built the entire new <a title="Robert Dall website" href="http://www.robertdall.com">robertdall.com</a> website using this domain. So what to do when everything moved over to the actual <a title="Robert Dall website" href="http://www.robertdall.com">robertdall.com</a> ?</p>
<p>I though I would throw up some cool Graffiti I found around the city. So why not expand this? But how? Through some investigation I found a content management system called <a title="Pixel Post website" href="http://www.pixelpost.org" target="_blank">Pixel Post</a>, I loved the big photos after downloading the lastest version I had it up and running in about 2 hours. Not bad for a Easter Sunday evening if I do say so.</p>
<p>But here is the deal, this isn&#8217;t my web domain so much like graffiti this photo blog could be around for a day, a week, a month, or a year. I don&#8217;t really know. But while the google bots find and rank my new content on my new site others won&#8217;t get lost along the way.</p>
<p><a title="Devious Behaviour photo blog" href="http://www.deviousbehaviour.com/" target="_blank">check it out. . . .</a></p>
